However, my checkout experience today left me feeling unsettled and disappointed.
Since 2024, I've earned Level 3 status in the Sparks Rewards program, which provides members with certain discounts. In the past, I've experienced occasional system issues where discounts were not properly applied, so I've made it a habit to politely confirm at checkout that my rewards have been processed correctly. Other sales associates have always been understanding and helpful when I've asked.
Today, when I asked Michelle to confirm that my Level 3 discount had been applied, she told me my account was showing as Level 2. I explained that I consistently encounter this issue in-store, but that my account reflects Level 3 status. Rather than working with me to understand the discrepancy, she repeated that I was Level 2 and suggested the number I provided was incorrect.
I tried to show her my account details and asked how we might resolve the recurring issue, as I shop there regularly. Unfortunately, instead of de-escalating the confusion or acknowledging my experience, the interaction became uncomfortable.
