I am not disputing that ID must be checked to sell cannabis. I am disputing how your business chooses to run itself and apply its internal policies.
That same day, I had no difficulty purchasing liquor at a Co-op Liquor location, cigarettes elsewhere, and cannabis from a different licensed retailer. All of those businesses operate under the same provincial laws and completed those transactions without issue.
At your store, however, I was refused service when I forgot my ID once. I am a 36-year-old man, clearly not a borderline case, and a long-term customer. My ID has been presented and verified at your store on multiple prior occasions. The law requires retailers to ensure customers are over 18 and permits staff to request ID when there is uncertainty. In this case, refusing service was not a legal necessity; it was a discretionary business choice.
