I am visabley transfem, and yet when I handed the guy my ID today he just decided to try and be cool and casually use my name and ask hey 'deadname' what are you looking to get today? And then even went on to use a shorten my name to a nickname like 30 seconds later so.. I was frustrated about that.
The dude was still helpful though, he gave some details on 510 vapes which is what I went to get and then suggested some cartridge flavours. But idk if he was trying to upsell me for 5$ difference or just really liked a certain vape but he was being pushy to buy a certain type and instead of going into detail about multiple mostly went into detail about a specific one like 4 times. And even said "everybody has one of these" and shit to make me want it more or something idk.
But the person at the cash who rang me up was nice, and when I made an account with them, I asked if I needed to use my legal name or preferred name and they said prefered is fine, so that made me feel a lil better, she complimented my name which was nice too.
Overall it was an okay experience, the biggest downside was being deadnamed because of the assumption that my legal name is 'Obviously' what I go by even though I'm visably trans.. so maybe a bit of sensitivity training for staff is needed to understand shit that is a basic necessity to serving everyone in a positive inclusive way.
