Bisabolol (Sweet Floral Citrus) also known as Levomenol, has a pleasant floral aroma and can also be found in chamomile flower and candeia tree. Primarily used in the cosmetics industry, but lately found to be effective in treating bacterial infections and wounds and is a great antioxidant with anti-irritation and analgesic properties.

Caryophyllene (Pepper Spice Woody) is found in a variety of edible plants and herbs and smells of pepper and spice, and can also be found in black pepper, cinnamon, cloves, oregano, basil and rosemary. It has long been used in anti-inflammatory topicals and creams and is also thought to reduce anxiety, and is recommended for treating alcohol withdrawal symptoms.

Humulene (Earthy Herbal Spice) is most commonly found in hops, which is also its most pronounced flavour characteristic. it can be also found in clove, sage, and black pepper. It's thought to suppress appetite and is currently being studied for its effects on cancer cells.

Myrcene (Musk Earthy Spice) is the most prevalent terpene in cannabis, characterized by earthy, musky, and spicy clove-like aromas. It is renowned for its sedative properties, making it ideal for relaxation and sleep (eating a mango 45 min. before smoking will increase THC effect). Beyond cannabis, myrcene is found in mangoes, hops, and lemongrass, offering anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and muscle-relaxant benefits.

Terpinolene (Pine Woody Citrus) can be found in sage, rosemary, apples, tea trees, cumin and nutmeg. It has a piney or woody aroma with hints of citrus and herbal spice. Its strong aromatic properties make it a commonly used ingredient in soaps, perfumes, lotions, and flavours. It acts as a sedative with antiseptic properties.

Terpenes are fragrant oils naturally secreted in cannabis, including other plants, fruits and herbs. They are the organic compounds that give each strain of cannabis its unique aroma, flavour and effects. These oils have been used for centuries in medicine, natural remedies and food.

WholeHemp's roots are deep – they stretch back to 1995 when we started our first hemp business. For well over 25 years, we have been involved in the Canadian hemp industry through our businesses, organizations we have started and support and a variety of research programs. We launched Pure Hemp rolling papers to the North American market back in 1997 (and Pure Hemp cones in 2020!) and grew our first hemp crop in 1998.

Legal cannabis. Who would have thought? Well maybe not thought exactly but certainly hoped and dreamed. And worked. Hard.

With many other passionate, like minded individuals we have been working to legalize cannabis for going on to 25 years. We got our start working with the likes of Hempline and Chris Clay back in ’94, launched Pure Hemp rolling papers, grew our first legal hemp crop in ’98 and were hired to create the Ontario Hemp Alliance (which later rolled into the Canadian Hemp Trade Alliance.)

We collaborated with Dr. Ernest Small (yes, the same Dr. Small who just received the Order of Canada for his lifetime work researching cannabis) at Agriculture Canada on a hemp germ plasm trial from 1999-2001 and started a hemp breeding program in 2000 with partner PhytoGene Resources Inc. (CanMa, GranMa and ESTA-1 are three of our varieties).
