At what point is it appropriate to ask for a customers ID? Is it before or after the teller asks the customer for their personal phone number to confirm that that person had indeed MADE an account with that store? An account that would require a valid ID to even create? Or is before or after the teller then confirms with the customer that they had previous orders? All of which were made in the last 2 days? Or is it before or after that teller then spends 5 minutes RETRIEVING said product only to then, while holding the product in his hands, ask the customer which form of payment they wish to use? THEN the customer is asked to provide an ID? Now the customer understands the law and that when a request for ID is made it can TECHNICALLY be asked for at any time. But when the teller does everything said above, AND THEN, asks for ID, I'm sorry, but that's not acceptable. An absolute travesty in terms of customer service. Train your employees properly! Totally stupid.
